Petition For Improved Account Security.
It seems no matter what people write or say on the matter, more and more peoples accounts are being stolen and trashed. So it's time, as a community to say 'Enough is enough'.
Even if you have not been directly affected, I believe you have a community duty to add your voice to this petition to get something done. If the game has any community spirit left in it, then simply add 'signed' to the bottom of this post.
For too long the issue of account hacks has been swept under the carpet, the sympathetic noises given by Arenanet and the community just will not do.
Enough Is Enough. It's time to face this issue head on. No more hiding, no more excuses.
Please do not turn this thread into a debate or merge it into others. Or move it into a suggestions forum. This is a community interest thread, not a 'here's how to make things improved' thread. Neither should this thread be viewed as a QQ thread. it is a serious attempt to get something done.
The purpose is to show the importance we, the customer and the player place on preventing damage to our accounts by goldsellers, and malicious individuals.
Yes we know we have a duty of care etc, but so does Areanet to make sure WHEN things go wrong our accounts are as well protected as they can possibly be.
Quite simply we know more can be done and needs to be done.
Feel free to point this thread out, paste a link in your guild forums or repost it anywhere needed.
Nothing will change if we ignore this issue, sweep it under the carpet or pretend it won't happen to us.
It does'nt matter if you still play or not. this issue affects all of us.
It's time to say, as a community, FOR the community enough is enough.
We the undersigned wish Arenanet to introduce greatly improved measures to prevent deliberate sabotage of Guild Wars accounts as a matter of utmost priority, even if it means a delay to Guild Wars 2 or other planned updates.
We do not accept it is impossible to implement such measures and that using the creative skills we know Arenanet to possess this now continual flood of trashed accounts can and must be stopped.
We also state that this issue will affect our decisions to purchase further arena-net products
We wish it to be shown, by doing this you still value the custom and loyalty we have shown you over the past four years
To show your support, simply add 'signed' at the bottom of this thread. If you disagree, please just dont sign it and comment on a different thread(there are lots to choose from) .

ArenaNet needs to lean on NCsoft and force them to sort THEIR sh*t out.
I do everything I can on my end to protect my account.
I want Anet/NCsoft to do everything they can on their end.
BEFORE I get "hacked".

Account security just got bumped above skill balances in my book, making it into the single most important thing they should be focusing on right now. And if that means dropping everything else, that means dropping everything else.

It's got to the point where I'm expecting it to have happened every time I log in.

This is exactly my feeling. To the point where I'm filling my HoM and dedicating stuff earlier than I already planned. I know of people who have purposely trashed their accounts and stopped playing because they have no confidence in their account security.
I've reviewed and improved my personal security recently. I'd like to see NCSoft and ArenaNet do the same.

Im getting paranoid here im suspecting that my textmod skin is trying to steal my account solely because there is an hidden "anonymous" logo in an empty character slot.

Not because I don't agree that account security could really use an overhaul because it most definitely can.
Mostly because this petition is not neutral in nature. It is aggressive and tries to threaten things more than "We want change".
I do not state that my future purchases are in any way affected by the success/failure of this petition.
I do however agree that an account security protocol overhaul is needed. The question is really: Can Anet actually convince NCSoft to do anything at all...

I completely agree that the resent mass wide account hacking has got well and trully out of hand. It is now obvious that the fault of the accounts being hacked is not just linked to account holders stupidity i.e. DL'ing bad things/key loggers, giving out details, using same E-mail/Passwords etc.
I too keep finding myself dreading logging in every day due to the fact Im afraid my account will be gone. I have invested years of my time into this game not to mention the money for many copies of the game and expansions (Bought all the expansions for myself and my Fiancee). I think the least A-net/NCsoft can do to reward people like us is to give us a bit of peace of mind and added security.
To the OP the majority of what you have said there is completely correct, though there are many who will not agree with the threat of not buying future products. In my opinion everything else should now be secondary to account security issues. There is no point in skill balances/new content etc if no one has an account to play it on.
And if my account were to be hacked that would mean goodbye to GW for me even if I kept my chars but lost everything I have worked for for the last years. I would probably delete them all myself since my account would always forever more feel tainted by some thief. This also would make me never want to buy another product from A-net/NCsoft in the future since their security would mean I would probably lose everything anyway and the money it cost me also.
So to A-net/NCsoft please work on this and give us ways to REALLY protect our accounts from these thieves and give us all some peace.

I haven't been hacked yet. But reading these posts everyday about people who got hacked, makes me very concerned.

/signed. I have to agree, something needs to give on this issue. I hope that Anet actually listens and does something very soon. I watched a guildie go nuts over 4 years of hard work. I don't want to see that happen to anyone else I know.

This needs to stop, and it needs to stop now. We shouldn't have to play with that lurking concern of our account's security.

/halfsigned - Goldsellers, if people are dumb and greedy enough to use to try and gain advantage then they deserve whatever happens to their a/c.
Faster response time from ANet would be nice, I once thought my a/c got hacked but turns out a password changed went wrong lol, but it took them 3 days to reply, imagine the damage that could have been done in 3 days!

Absolutely signed!
An admission from ANet that they have a serious problem and an ex-gratia "payment" of ingame compensation for the years of work that so many people have lost would be nice too.. although that is never going to happen!

I have a GWAMM toon, do not want to see it deleted. I am scared to see that happen and will not purchase anything from the NCSoft store because of the recent hacks of accounts.
Please make a feature that allows players to lock a character permanently so that it cannot be deleted too.....
